The name or security ID (SID) of the domain specified is inconsistent with the trust information for that domain.

Scenario:

When you create a test VM in a vmware workstation and you clone the same VM in multiple. When you login to a domain controller you will get an error message “The name or security ID (SID) of the domain specified is inconsistent with the trust information for that domain.” and also in the picture given below

Cause: This error occur due to the same SID (Security-ID) for all the VMs.

Solution:

To overcome the issue, try to change the SID for the VM with the tool newsid.

1. Disjoin the computer(VM) from the domain controller.

2. Ensure the computername is removed from the domain controller.

3. Run the newsid tool in the computer(VM)

4. Again join the computer in the domain controller.
